Three Bears is a surf spot located in South West Australia, Australia, situated midway between Sugarloaf Rock and Yallingup. This spot is part of the Capes Region, known for its diverse surf breaks and rich surfing culture. Three Bears is characterized by its coral reef bottom and provides both left and right waves, making it suitable for intermediate surfers. The surf spot consists of three main waves: Babys, Mamas, and Papas. Babys is a good peak on a small swell, with the left slightly longer, and it performs well when the swell reaches around 6 feet, offering long rides and great tubes. Mamas is ideal on mid to small swells, featuring a nice left tube and wall, with rights also possible. Papas is considered an average wave compared to the others. The waves at Three Bears can get very big on an average-sized swell, with powerful rogue waves and cleanup sets, but they start closing out at about a 2.5 to 3-meter swell (8-10 feet wave). The spot picks up as much, if not more, swell than Margaret River. Despite being a difficult-to-access location, requiring a 4×4 vehicle, it can become crowded, especially in summer or on weekends. Surfers should be prepared for cool conditions, although it can get crazy with plenty of mals when the swell is small. It’s important to check the surf etiquette when surfing crowded spots and to check your skills before paddling out to make sure the spot and conditions fit your surfing level. Respect the locals.
